ABSTRACT :

There are clear evidences that global climate change is happening. Although, the factors responsible are debatable. The coastal regions can be considered as a natural laboratory to assess the impacts of climate change on humanity and its effects. Climate change impact in terms of natural hazards are inevitable and in coastal region with huge population, the effect can be destructive. We studied the Indian coastal city -Vishakhapatnam to assess its climate resilience using an expert system based Primer Tool. This study is an assessment exercise to identify environmental characteristics, potential impacts of climate change and natural or other hazards of Visakhapatnam city. Beyond that, the assessment will also identify the local government rights and authorities that would allow it to take action in dealing with potential climate change impacts and natural hazards. This knowledge is critical for defining mitigation as well as adaptation plan to make Visakhapatnam climate resilient.
