INDIAN SUMMER MONSOON SEASONAL PREDICTION: POTENTIAL AND CHALLENGES

ABSTRACT :

Dynamical seasonal prediction of Indian Summer Monsoon is implemented at IITM, Pune using state-of-the-art Coupled Ocean-Atmosphere General Circulation Model CFSv2. The model have very good skill in predicting the interannual variability of the monsoon seasonal performance driven by ENSO forcing. But the relationship between Indian Ocean Dynamics and Monsoon is not simulated sufficiently in the model and hence it is limiting the prediction skill of the model. Further studies are required to improve the simulation of Indian Ocean dynamics and its relationship with monsoon in the model.
