WDO BASED FIR LOW PASS FILTER FOR DENOISING ACOUSTIC SIGNALS IN UNDERWATER SCENARIO

ABSTRACT :

Acoustic signals are often corrupted by noise due to various factors during their acquisition and transmission phases. Signal de-noising is aimed to remove the noise as well as preserving signal features . This paper presents an adaptive signal de-noising method using (Wind Driven Optimization) WDO based FIR( finite Impulse Response) low pass filter design. WDO is a population based iterative heuristic global optimization technique for multidimensional problems. WDO based FIR low pass filter is capable to remove the effect of noise compared with traditional filter and thus significantly improve the signal quality. Performance measures like RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) and output SNR (signal to Noise Ratio) are calculated at various filter orders and input SNR conditions. The optimum filter coefficients necessary to design an low pass filter are obtained from WDO algorithm.
